Exeter Gardens is a nonprofit community trust founded in 2011 to transform an abandoned, ramshackle lot in Baltimore City into a model garden where families can learn from local gardening, nutrition, and ethnic food experts how to grow and prepare their own good food. In the process, families can share ethnic food cultures, have fun with friends and neighbors, and be inspired to start their own gardens.
Like more than 24 million other Americans, the residents of Jonestown live in a “food desert” – a community where low-income families have little or no access to affordable, healthy food. Our goal is to make Exeter Gardens an oasis where families and friends are empowered to grow those healthy foods and demand healthier choices. In this way, we can leverage one small lot into a force for change that will inspire the community for generations to come.
