YES Drop-In Center is Open!

YES Drop-In Center is a safe space for youth, who are homeless or at-risk of homelessness and between ages 14-25, to get basic needs met and establish supportive relationships with peer counselors and allies that help them make and sustain connections to long-term resources and opportunities.

YES Mission: Founded and run by formerly homeless youth and their allies, the Youth Empowered Society (YES) works to end youth homelessness in Baltimore by supporting formerly homeless youth to become leaders in our community and by providing desperately needed, direct services to homeless youth.

Vision: all Baltimore youth will be able to easily access the resources necessary to achieve stable housing and become healthy, successful adults.

   The Youth Empowered Society “YES” Drop-In Center grew out of the work of the Baltimore Homeless Youth Initiative (BHYI) Youth Leaders.  The BHYI is a coalition of community and government agencies and committed individuals that seek to fill critical gaps in care for unaccompanied homeless youth.  The BHYI Youth Leaders were a group of youth with experiences of homelessness brought together by the BHYI to help set the d


The BHYI Youth Leaders partnered with Griot’s Eye Project to produce this short film about youth homelessness in Baltimore City.  Please check it out!
irection and identify priorities for the coalition.  Among other priorities, the Youth Leaders identified the need for a comprehensive, one-stop-shop, drop-in center for youth, located in the center of the City (outside of East and West Baltimore gang territories), highly accessible by public transportation, open in the evenings (and eventually overnight), and staffed by young adults with experiences of homelessness.  When no other service provider moved to create this resource, this group and their adult supporter decided to step up to the challenge.
